What makes up the price
The SDF and visa are set by the Bhutanese government and are the same whichever operator you book. We show them separately so you can see exactly what's a fee and what's the trip.

How to compare Bhutan tour quotes
Two quotes can describe the same places and cover different services. Put them side by side and check the items below. If something is missing from a quote, mark it as “not stated” and ask before treating it as included.
- Travellers, dates and nights
- Use the same travel dates, number of nights, party size and children's ages. Check whether the amount is per person or for the whole party, and which currency is used.
- Hotels and rooms
- Compare the named hotels or agreed hotel category, room occupancy and any single-room supplement. Ask what happens if a listed hotel is unavailable.
- Meals, visits and activities
- Check which meals and attraction entry fees are included. Identify any walks, experiences or optional activities that cost extra.
- Guide, vehicle and transfers
- Check which days have a guide and vehicle, whether these are private or shared, and whether your arrival and departure transfers are covered. Match the actual route as well as the trip length.
- Government fees
- Ask whether the total includes the SDF, visa and any applicable permit fees for every traveller. Confirm that the quote uses the correct nationality, ages and travel dates.
- Spending outside the package
- List flights, insurance, drinks, personal purchases and other exclusions separately. Ask whether tips are optional and whether any suggested amount is already included in the total.
- Who you book and travel with
- Confirm the business you are booking with, who receives your payment and which operator runs the trip in Bhutan. Ask who to contact before departure and during the journey.
- Payment and changes
- Read the deposit and balance deadlines, payment method, cancellation terms and any change fees. Ask for unclear terms to be confirmed in writing before paying.

How much does a trip to Bhutan cost in 2026?+
For an international visitor on our standard 7-day, 6-night package, the Bhutan-side price is USD 1,740 per adult. That final all-inclusive amount covers hotels, a dedicated guide and driver, meals, the nightly Sustainable Development Fee, and the one-time USD 40 visa, before international flights and optional upgrades. What is the $100 a day fee in Bhutan?+
That's the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF), a government charge of $100 per adult per night for most foreign visitors. It is already included in our standard all-inclusive package price. Children 6–11 pay half ($50/night) and under-6s are exempt. It funds Bhutan's free healthcare, free education, and conservation. The current $100 rate is a concession scheduled to run until 31 August 2027, Check the applicable rate before booking travel after that date.
Is Bhutan expensive to visit?+
Bhutan is more expensive than neighbouring Nepal or India because of the SDF, which is deliberate: the country runs a high-value, low-volume tourism model rather than mass tourism. The upside is uncrowded sites and a fee that funds public services. Once you account for the SDF, the actual tour costs (hotels, guide, transport) are comparable to mid-range travel elsewhere in the region.
What's included in the estimate, and what isn't?+
The estimate covers the SDF, the visa fee, and all-inclusive tour services: hotels at your chosen tier, a dedicated licensed guide, driver and vehicle, meals, and permits. It excludes international flights to Paro, any domestic flights within Bhutan, tips for your guide and driver, travel insurance, and personal spending.
Does the time of year change the price?+
The calculator uses our current package prices to estimate your trip. Prices can change before booking. Your written quote confirms the price, hotel availability and any optional upgrades or custom arrangements for your dates.
Do I need to book a full package, or can I travel independently?+
Since 2022 you no longer need a packaged tour, but foreign visitors do still need a licensed Bhutanese guide, the SDF, a visa, and permits. You can book a curated journey or design your own itinerary and we handle the guide, permits, and logistics either way.
Can I just hire a guide and driver and book my own hotels?+
Yes. Switch the calculator to 'Guide & driver only' for an estimate covering a licensed guide, a dedicated vehicle and driver, and the government fees, while you arrange your own hotels and meals.
